COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Caruthersville Disaster Recovery Center, operated jointly by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Missouri Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), is changing its hours effective Wednesday, June 7. The new hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT, Monday thru Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT on Saturday. The center is located at the American Legion Post #88, on Truman Road.
Assistance and information for Missourians who have experienced damages and losses from the tornadoes, storms and flooding between March 30 and April 3 is available at the center. Representatives of state, federal and voluntary agencies are on hand to discuss disaster programs, including temporary housing, individual and family grants, disaster unemployment assistance, and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for homeowners, renters and business owners.
Affected Missouri residents and business owners who have disaster assistance questions may also call the toll-free Helpline number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. CDT. Those with a speech- or hearing-impairment may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Residents may also visit online at www.fema.gov.
FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
