COLUMBIA , Mo. -- Homeowners, renters and business owners who were affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding of March 8-13 and March 30 - April 3, 2006, have been approved to receive more than $24.4 million in assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the State of Missouri Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Recovery Services Summary as of May 31, 2006 :
- 3,746 individuals have registered for Individual Assistance.
- $3,335,447 has been approved through the Individuals and Household Program. Of that, FEMA has provided $1,898,934 in Housing Assistance and $1,436,512 in Other Needs Assistance.
- $18,629,300 in loans have been approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for individuals and businesses in Missouri . Of that amount, $17,270,000 was approved for home loans and $1,359,300 for business loans.
- $21,780 has been disbursed in Disaster Unemployment Assistance; 32 claims have been approved.
- 216 applicants have requested manufactured homes. Some 86 households have leased units (some larger households have multiple units). Accessible units with a wider entrance, handrails, and low-step tub entry also are available.
- $2,483,988 in Public Assistance has been obligated to Missouri by FEMA. The funds will be used by the State of Missouri to reimburse local governments and agencies for eligible and documented debris removal, temporary sheltering, interim housing and emergency protective measures associated with the severe storms.
For homeowners, renters and business owners in Andrew , Butler , Dunklin , Pemiscot , Pettis , St. Francois and Stoddard counties, the last day to apply for disaster assistance is June 5, 2006 . Apply by calling the FEMA tele-registration number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 800-462-7585 for the speech or hearing-impaired, or apply online.
FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
