HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvania residents who incurred damage from the storms and flooding that began on August 1, 2004, have until October 5 to register for assistance with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Individuals, renters and business owners in Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties should call FEMA’s teleregistration number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or TTY 1-800-621-7585 for those with speech and hearing impairments.
The best times to call are after 6 p.m., very early in the morning or on the weekends. Even if you have insurance, you may still be eligible for disaster assistance for under-insured losses.
Those with insurance coverage should call their agent or insurance carrier first, then call FEMA. Those with access to a computer can visit FEMA’s website at www.fema.gov for additional information about disaster assistance programs.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
