Communications

Monitoring

Telephone, email, and internet access are for official business only. People arriving at LANL from universities are accustomed to a degree of freedom in their email and internet use that may get them in trouble here. The Lab conducts random monitoring of outgoing e-mail. Internet use is monitored routinely and hits on pornographic sites will be noticed and investigated. Your electronic communications are being scrutinized.

Telephone Usage

Occasionally, you may be asked to verify that all the long-distance calls made on your telephone were made for business reasons. If you need to make a personal, long-distance call at work, use a personal credit card. Occasionally, short personal calls to local numbers are tolerated. Your supervisor or group administrator will make sure that you are set up with a telephone. To initiate Voice Mail on your phone contact CTN-4 at 667-3400 or see their voice mail web page. To access your voice-mail, dial 7-5286.

Dial 8 to get an outside line. Within the lab, dial only the last 5 digits of the phone number.

E-Mail Accounts

Your group System Administrator will help you set up an e-mail account and provide you with an e-mail address.

Phone Book

To find LANL personnel contact information, group rosters and the lab phone book are good places to start. The phone book is a link on the top of most lab web pages. The EES-Division home page is a good link to EES group rosters.

CryptoCards

You will need a Citrix CryptoCard to access Lab systems such as the Crays and CFS, or to get to Lab-wide administrative/business systems, such as Time & Effort, Travel, and Data Warehouse. To get a CryptoCard, submit an ICN Validation Request form to the ICN Password Office. The request form is available online. If you don't have an L- or Q-clearance, you need to complete an administrative access packet and attend a security briefing. The packet is available online from the ICN Password Office.
