Sampling and Surveillance

Groundwater monitoring is performed to protect human health and the environment. The network is designed to identify new and monitor historical contaminants. This network is evaluated annually for effectiveness. All of our monitoring results are available to the public in the RACER Database.

Water Types Monitored

• Groundwater
• Shallow alluvial groundwater in canyon bottoms (10 to 40 ft) is monitored in 78 wells
• Intermediate groundwater in localized zones (200 to 600 ft) is monitored in 33 wells
• Regional groundwater plateau wide (800 to 1000 ft) is monitored at 72 well screens in both single- and multi-screen wells
• Persistent surface water (base flow) is monitored in 29 locations
• Springs are monitored in 53 locations

• Radionuclides (gamma-spec [Co, Cs, Np]
• Alpha-spec [Pu, Am, U), H-3 [LLEE, LSC], TIMS)
• General chemistry (cations/anions, perchlorate)
• Metals (23 TAL metals & cyanide)
• Organics (VOA/SVOA)
• Field parameters (pH, ORP, DO, T, EC, turbidity, etc)
