LANL AIRNET Data Concentrations

The ambient air monitoring program at the Los Alamos National Laboratory originated as early as 1958 with a single station atop the roof of the Administration Building in TA-3. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, a network of about 25 stations began to take shape and has now evolved to as many as 60 stations conducting continuous air sampling.

The approximate dates of operation shown were reconstructed from existing records in our possession and are subject to revision as new sources of information become available. Some stations were not operated continuously during the time span shown and were stopped and restarted in response to changing Laboratory operations or DOE and EPA regulatory requirements.

Working backwards in time, these historical data are being verified against existing analytical laboratory reports and loaded into our electronic databases as time permits to be made available to the public through the web. All available data have not yet been loaded, nor are all radionuclides measured at all stations and/or during all time periods. Link buttons are shown only where some data are currently loaded and will be updated as more data become validated.

Recently, we have made improvements to our program by changing the technique used to calculate tritium air concentrations, the incorporation of a net air concentration calculation, and the inclusion of gamma and beryllium data into our quality program. We are also correcting past errors concerning the fraction of the filter analyzed and an uncertainty discrepency. Some of these improvements have led to revisions of the data on these pages. These improvements, and the relevant information on what data were affected, are described in detail at LANL AIRNET Program Updates. Please contact us with any questions you may have about changes to the data.

Individual site pages are organized first by constituent measured and then by year. Not all constituents are measured at each site or in every year at any individual location. The rationale for these choices is documented in each annual report.

Annual Environmental Surveillance Report Summary Data

The Los Alamos National Laboratory has published a series of annual reports since 1971 that summarize environmental data taken to comply with applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, Executive Orders, and Department of Energy Orders and policies. Additional data, beyond the minimum required, are also gathered and reported as part of the Laboratory's efforts to ensure public safety and to monitor environmental quality at and near the Laboratory.

The site tables below provide access to the annual air quality summary data from every sampling site used by the Laboratory at any time during the 1971 to 1998 time frame for ambient air quality measurements that have been formally published in this annual series of reports.
