Searching the Jimmy Carter Library's Holdings
Archival Research Catalog

To search the open holdings of the Jimmy Carter Library via the world wide web, point your browser to:
http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/.

Click on:
Search. This will open the basic search page for the Research Catalog.

Click on: Advanced Search. This will open an advanced search page that will enable you to filter your search parameters. The top box provides details about keyword and filtered searching. Enter your search terms.

Enter the number of search results in the Limit results to box.

Scroll down and Click on Types of Archival Materials .

You can uncheck boxes to exclude options from your search or you can Click on Deselect all . This will deselect all options and allow you to select the materials you want to search. Click on the types of materials you want searched. Ex. Textual Records, etc.

Scroll down and Click on Location of Archival Materials. This will open a page that allows you to choose the NARA units you would like to search. Click on Deselect All and then Click on Jimmy Carter Library. This will limit your search to records in the Jimmy Carter Library.

Scroll down and Click on Level of Description. This will open a page that allows you to choose the level of record description. Click on File unit.

Click on Search. This will give you a list of all the file records. Click on Hierarchy.

You will retrieve records describing FILE FOLDERS of manuscript material in the open collections of the Jimmy Carter Library. Sometimes, an approximate page count will be listed. The Library requires the collection title, box number, and folder title to access the file folder in which you are interested.

The Jimmy Carter Library will copy the entire contents of file folders for mail-order researchers. Costs are 75 cents per page with a minimum order of $15.00. Contact the Library with your specific requests for an exact price quotation. Our e-mail address is: carter.library@nara.gov.

You may also search the 800 photographs and 800 pages of manuscript material from our collections that are imaged in ARC. At the top of the search result page in the tool bar Search Arc for: Click on Digital Copies. A search window will open. Click on Advanced Search. The advanced search page for digital images within ARC will open, follow the directions above making sure you deselect and select the appropriate options in the Types of Archival Materials box and the Location of Archival Materials box. The Level of Description should be set at the Item Level or select all options.
