Rock Island, IL - Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help western Illinois residents and businesses following the recent storms and flooding. The following information is a summary of the ongoing recovery efforts to date:
- FEMA has approved a total of $450,035.00 in disaster housing grants, which include temporary rental assistance for those whose homes have been severely damaged or funds to make essential repairs.
- As of close of business on Thursday, May 31, 546 applications for assistance had been taken from residents that suffered damages as a result of the disaster.

- To date, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved $269,900 in low-interest disaster loans. The SBA is the primary source of federal funds for long term disaster recovery for owners of private property, including homeowners, renters, non-farm businesses of all sizes and private non-profit organizations. These low-interest loans cover costs of repair or replacement of damaged real estate, personal property and business assets not fully covered by insurance or other aid.
- Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC's) in East Dubuque and Dallas City, Illinois have closed. However, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loan assistance offices have opened at the same locations to assist registrants with SBA loan applications or questions about their loans. The SBA workshops will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Both offices will close on Friday, June 8th.
- The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Moline closes Saturday June 2nd at noon. Beginning on Monday June 4th, SBA staff will be available at The Rock Island Arsenal, 1 Rock Island Arsenal, Building 131 - 1st floor, in Rock Island. A representative from FEMA will also be at this office for a limited time to help with questions about disaster assistance. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm until further notice.
- For those who have been unable to visit a Disaster Recovery Center and need information on assistance programs or the status of their application, FEMA has established a toll-free HELPLINE. Anyone with questions about disaster assistance programs are encouraged to call (800) 525-0321. Those people with hearing or speech impairments can call (TDD) (800) 462-7585. The phones are available Monday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Homeowners, renters, and businesses in Adams, Calhoun, Carroll, Hancock, Henderson, Jo Daviess, Mercer, Pike, Rock Island and Whiteside counties are eligible to apply for assistance. The first step in receiving state and federal assistance made available under the May 9 presidential declaration is to register by calling the toll-free FEMA application number: (800) 462-9029; TTY (800) 462-7585 for the speech and hearing impaired. Both lines are open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice.
- The major disaster declaration also made all ten counties listed above eligible for Public Assistance programs, which provide funds to eligible municipalities, public agencies and certain private non-profit organizations for approved costs of debris removal (category A) and emergency protective measures (category B). Potential applicants that were unable to attend briefings held recently are encouraged to call the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) at (217) 782-8719 for further information.
