Partner Spotlight
Over 70 organizations lent their insights and contributed their resources to ensure that the Stop Bullying Now! Campaign was a success. All of our partners are passionate about preventing bullying in schools and communities across the country, and many have launched initiatives and programs of their own that are helping to do just that! Periodically, we will feature our partners and share their success stories here, so be sure to check back for updates and new developments.

HRSA'S "Stop Bullying Now!" Campaign Partners Breakfast
Monday, October 24

For almost two years, The Stop Bullying Now! Campaign has been reaching millions of people across the country, and the success of this campaign is in large part due to the involvement of our Partners. Their support and dedication enables us to broaden our reach and keep the campaign fresh. It was with appreciation for that contribution that we invited them to a partner's breakfast in Washington, D.C. SBN! Partners came to the meeting with a collaborative spirit and a desire to learn from both our special guest, internationally recognized expert in bullying prevention Dr. Dan Olweus, and from each other.

Dr. Olweus, whose research findings have helped inform the SBN! Campaign, spoke about the evolution of the bullying prevention movement. It has progressed from 1970, when the world's first bullying study was launched in Europe at a time when schools blamed victims for what they saw as individualized problems, to the informed public health efforts of today, such as HRSA's "Stop Bullying Now!" Campaign. According to Dr. Olweus, today's research focuses on such topics as the reasons that children bully, why some children act as both bullies and victims, and cyber-bullying.

The participation on the local-level has been overwhelming. Projects in Maryland, Florida, and Wisconsin, for example, are educating and engaging their students and staff in bullying prevention. By using Campaign materials they are helping the "Stop Bullying Now!" Campaign realize its ultimate goal. These efforts were featured prominently as examples of the Campaign in action.

Equally crucial in that process are our national Partners, such as the National Association of Social Workers and the National Crime Prevention Council. We were happy to highlight each organization's involvement in the campaign and their individual bullying prevention efforts. With access to youth and key members of the education community, these organizations are critical to spreading bullying prevention messages.

The Campaign staff, represented by Captain Stephanie Bryn and Seeta Gowda from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), thanked the group for their participation and updated them on our progress. More than 17,500 Resource Kits have been distributed, and the Web site currently gets 15,000-25,000 visitors per week. This progress has encouraged new elements of the Campaign, including ongoing Web site updates, new Spanish content, and as part of this year's work, an updated Communications Kit as well as technical assistance and training for select groups.

The "Stop Bullying Now!" Campaign continues to grow with the help of our Partners. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the meeting and everyone who continues to support bullying prevention.
