(Posted: 12/10/2007) - A precancerous condition known as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is more likely to come back after surgery to remove the abnormal cells if the cells aren't completely removed, according to the November 2007 Lancet Oncology.

2.  HPV Vaccine Not Effective for Treating Pre-Existing Infections 4
(Posted: 08/28/2007) - A vaccine developed to prevent infection with human papillomaviruses (HPV), the cause of cervical cancer, was found to be ineffective for treating women with pre-existing HPV infections, according to a study published in the August 15, 2007, Journal of the American Medical Association.

(Posted: 07/17/2007) - The vaccine Cervarix® was 90 percent effective against two types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause cervical cancer, according to the June 30, 2007, Lancet.

4.  Long-Term Data Support Cisplatin-Based Chemoradiation for Cervical Cancer 6
(Posted: 05/29/2007) - Women with cervical cancer that had spread locally or regionally who received the chemotherapy drug cisplatin in addition to radiation therapy lived significantly longer than women who received a different kind of chemoradiation, according to the July 1, 2007, Journal of Clinical Oncology.

5.  New Data from HPV Vaccine Trials Available 7
(Posted: 05/22/2007) - Results from three years of follow-up data from two clinical trials of Gardasil, a vaccine that protects against the HPV viruses known to cause 70 percent of all cases of cervical cancer, have been published in the May 10, 2007, New England Journal of Medicine.
