The Research Library offers extensive scientific and technical
resources and services in support of LANL research.
Get access to:
- Journals - We subscribe to over
7,000 journals, mostly in electronic form. See what's available by using the
search box on the library home page, the Journal web
pages or the Library
Catalog. Many key ejournals are now available for all volumes,
or at least back several decades. New issues of
print journals are displayed near the entrance to the library; back volumes are
shelved on the lower level. Copy
service, offered as PDFs, is available for items held by the library.
Please check our Document Delivery page
for information about ordering materials that are not in the LANL
Library collection.
- Databases - Find journal articles, books, conference
proceedings, funding sources, reports, etc. indexed in over 100 databases available
to LANL staff.
Try OPPIE to search 7 key scientific databases at once in our newest search interface, released May 2008, with basic, fielded and cited searching, facets to narrow your search results, ability to download records and create alerts.
Or try starting in FlashPoint,
a multi-database search tool that allows you
run a search across six other databases.
Also, library staff can do database
searching of hundreds of other commercial and government databases not
available on the open Web.
- Books - Both print and electronic books are
added regularly. You can check out books
and reports from the library, either at the front desk during library hours or
via the electronic checkout machine located near the library entrance. Can't
come to the library? No problem! Use the "request an item" button in
the online catalog to have items set to your mail stop or call (7-5809) or email.
LANL Z number is required.
- Reports - Over 1.5 million
unclassified technical reports. About 1/3 of these are in the catalog; contact
us if you don't find what you need there.
- Los Alamos patents -
full-text PDFs of LANL patents from 1947 to the present
- Video and audio - LANL
colloquia, scientific, and general presentations, language tapes
- Web resources outside LANL - hand-selected links to resources from
phone books to the table of the nuclides to professional societies, categorized
on the Resources by Subject pages in the middle of the library home page.
Keep current: New books and journal
issues are displayed near the front of the library. The library's
website has a weekly new book
list
(also available via email),
and a list of new web resources
added to our web site. Use Alerts
in our databases for weekly updates.
Research consultation and training: Reference
service is provided in the library, or we can come to you. Training is
offered by appointment, either one-on-one or group sessions, on a variety of
