Transitional Sheltering Initiative

If you need to need to stay in a hotel or motel as emergency lodging because you can’t get into your neighborhood, or because your home is so damaged you can’t live in it – FEMA may be able to pay for a hotel or motel room for you and your family.

What You Need to Do

Apply to FEMA for disaster assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 or Apply for Assistance online.

What FEMA Will Need to Do

Note: The assistance is available for the period beginning on September 3 and will end on October 3, 2008.  You are authorized to stay in a hotel only for the period of time that you are unable to live in your home.

Next Steps

Once FEMA makes a determination on your eligibility, your lodging expenses will be paid directly to your hotel.

A list of  participating hotels is available online at www.gustav-evac.com or by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585.

If you are currently paying to stay in a hotel/motel, you may be required to check out and be checked back in your hotel to receive this assistance.

The cost of your own meals, or other hotel expenses, is NOT included in this assistance.
