RICHMOND, Va. -- Tuesday, Nov. 2, is the last day for victims of Tropical Depression Gaston to register to receive federal and state disaster assistance.

Victims may call 1-800-621-FEMA toll free, 24 hours a day. The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for the deaf and hearing impaired.

Those with Internet access may register by going to fema.gov.

Disaster assistance in available to homeowners, renters and businesses in the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg and Richmond, and the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Hanover, Henrico, King William, New Kent and Prince George.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
