Predoctoral Psychology Internship Program

Overview

The Department of Veterans Affairs, Dayton VA Medical Center offers a full-time, one-year, funded predoctoral psychology internship to doctoral students enrolled in American Psychological Association (APA) approved clinical and counseling psychology programs. Our psychology internship program is approved by the APA.

The Dayton VA Medical Center is a modern, state of the art comprehensive medical facility. The center includes a 369-bed patient tower opened in 1992 providing comprehensive outpatient programs, inpatient medical and surgical services, rehabilitation services, and psychiatric services. In addition, the Medical Center has 284 beds in the Nursing Home Care Unit for patients with a need for extended care, and 338 beds divided among various programs housed in the Domiciliary. In all, the Dayton VA Medical Center grounds incorporate nearly 65 buildings on 292 contiguous acres. Included on the grounds are clinical, research and teaching facilities housing our affiliate, the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. The Medical Center has excellent research facilities along with administrative and clinical support for such activities.

The Medical Center employs nearly 1,600 full-time employees reflecting considerable diversity. The medical center serves 29 counties in central and western Ohio along with one county in Indiana with a total veteran patient population close to 400,000. The Dayton VA Medical Center serves approximately 6500 inpatients and 200,000 outpatients each year.

The Mental Health Care Line (MHCL) employs approximately 122 staff. Among three different care lines are 13 full time psychologists who are involved with the residency program. The staff come from diverse geographic, ethnic, and academic backgrounds. Staff are involved with a variety of patient care, education and training, and research activities throughout the medical center.
