The Advanced Technology Development and Prototyping Group expedites the delivery of new technologies and operational concepts required to meet the NextGen vision by validating new technologies in an operational environment and collecting performance data to support all appropriate documents required to complete the Concept and Requirements Definition (CRD) and Investment Analysis Readiness Decision (IARD) in accordance with AMS guidance. The activities conducted and/or managed by the Advanced Technology Development and Prototyping Group include analysis, simulation, modeling, prototyping, and field demonstrations to validate system performance and operational benefits. These efforts ensure that new technologies and solution concepts are aligned with or enhance the original intent of the FAA's strategic goals and Enterprise Architecture.

Our mission is to identify, validate, and demonstrate innovative technologies with proven benefits to support the NextGen Air Transportation System vision. Once the technology is successfully demonstrated and funding is identified, we facilitate the transition of these technical solutions to ATO Service Units for implementation.
