Epilepsy/Seizures Research Study

Brain infusion and surgery for epilepsy

Adults with epilepsy that is not controlled by medication are needed for a study on the brain infusion of an experimental medication, muscimol, for seizure control. We will be studying the infusion only in people who need and are willing to have epilepsy surgery. The study requires medical evaluation and MRI brain imaging and surgery at NIH as well as re-evaluation in our outpatient clinic 6-12 weeks after surgery. Surgery and all study procedures and medication are provided without cost.

Epilepsy/Seizures Research Study

Uncontrolled Seizures

Scientists at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) seek people age 5 and older with seizures for participation in research studies. These studies involve video-EEG monitoring of seizures, and non-invasive brain imaging tests such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans. The studies may last several months, with an inpatient stay of up to two weeks, and 10-15 outpatient visits of about an hour each.
