Forest Business Plans

The Forest Service Business Plan Initiative intends to improve the abilities of forests to communicate their financial condition and operational capabilities with principal stakeholders.

The business plans answer such questions as: What is the business of this forest? What are the functional responsibilities and operational standards of the organization? How much money does this forest need to operate within appropriate standards? What is the forest's financial situation?

The business planning process accomplishes three key tasks. The process:

  • provides a synopsis of the forest's funding history.
  • presents a clear, detailed picture of current forest operations and funding.
  • outlines forest priorities and funding strategies.

These business plans provide forest managers with a powerful tool to communicate the current and future work of their organizations.
