Interleukin-2 Extends Life of Key T Cells

Interleukin-2 (IL-2), an immune-boosting drug used experimentally in HIV therapy, has been found to greatly increase the lifespan of T cells in some HIV-positive people. This is significant news for people living with HIV/AIDS. A steady loss of CD4 T cells is a characteristic of HIV infection. This loss of T cells compromises and can prevent an HIV-infected person's ability to fend off disease. Read the full story: http://www.nih.gov/news/pr/jul2005/cc-14.htm.
