Can HAZUS be used for site-specific analyses?
HAZUS was designed to be a regional loss model. It can be used to perform an analysis for a single building (Earthquake Model) or a portfolio of buildings, but it is important to remember that HAZUS analytical results are best interpreted in an aggregate form. Nevertheless, a HAZUS analysis for a portfolio of buildings provides information very useful in identifying the most vulnerable buildings in that portfolio. Such information is essential in priority ranking buildings for seismic retrofitting, in performing cost-benefit studies, and even in resource allocation modeling.
