SPRUCE KNOB LAKE CAMPGROUND

Description: Spruce Knob Lake Campground is located west of Spruce Knob, the highest point in West Virginia.

Location: The campground is located 12 miles from Bartow, West Virginia and 15 miles from Riverton, West Virginia.

Directions:

From Riverton, WV, take US Route 33 south 2 miles to Briery Gap Road (Country Road 33/4). Turn right onto Briery Gap Road. Go 2 miles to Forest Road 112, turn left and continue for 13.5 miles. Turn right on Forest Road 1. The campground is 1/2 mile on the right.

From Elkins, WV, take US Route 33 to State Route 29. Turn right onto SR 29, and travel south 18.6 miles to Forest Road 1. Turn left and proceed on Forest Road 1 for 2.5 miles.

Facilities: There is one loop with 28 single campsites, 2 double campsites and 12 walkin sites. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring/grill, lantern holder, and a tent pad. Single and double site parking spurs will accomodate a camping trailer. Walkin sites are tent only and parking areas are located approximately 75 feet away from the campsite. Ten accessible vault toilets are located in the area.

Attractions:

Fishing is available at nearby Spruce Knob Lake and in Gandy Creek. A valid West Virginia State Fishing License is required, along with a National Forest stamp and a trout stamp. Please contact the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources for more information on fishing and hunting licensing requirements.

Boating is permitted on Spruce Knob Lake. Small boats are suitable for use on this lake. Only electric motors are permitted.

Hiking: there are 70 miles of hiking trails available. Please contact our district office for hiking guides.

Fees: There is a fee for camping sites. See Recreation Site Information.

Reservable -Reservations can be made online or by calling (877) 444-6777.

Campsites 1, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31 are not reservable and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Please check in with campground host upon arrival.

Notes:

This campground is operated under permit by American Land and Leisure.
Maximum length of stay is 14 days.
No dump station is available.
There are no electrical hookups available.
The nearest telephone or store is in Whitmer, West Virginia.
Solar powered water pump for drinking water is available.
Secure food and trash from bears and racoons.
