Description: | The NSABB has been established to provide advice, guidance and leadership regarding federal oversight of dual use research, defined as biological research with legitimate scientific purposes that could be misused to pose a biological threat to public health and/or national security. Presentations and discussions at the December 10 meeting which will be held at the Legacy Hotel & Meeting Centre, Rockville, MD, will focus on preliminary findings and recommendations on strategies to optimize programs of personnel reliability for individuals with access to select agents and toxins; a brief overview of Public Consultation meeting in July 2008 on the proposed framework for the oversight of dual use research; a brief update on the activities of the Working Group on Outreach and Education; a brief update on Synthetic Genomics; and, highlights from the November 2008 International Roundtable on Sustaining Progress in the Life Sciences: Strategies for Managing Dual Use Research of Concern.
