Dam Safety and Security in the United States: A Progress Report on the National Dam Safety Program Fiscal Years 2004 and 2005
The Dam Safety and Security Act of 2002 (Public Law 107-310) reauthorized the National Dam Safety Program (NDSP) through September 30, 2006, and added enhancements to the Water Resources and Development Act of 1996. The Act of 2002 also provided that the Director of FEMA must submit a biennial report to the Congress that describes the status of the NDSP, the progress achieved by the federal agencies during the two preceding fiscal years in implementing the Federal Guidelines for Dam Safety (http://www.fema.gov/plan/prevent/damfailure/fema93.shtm), and the progress achieved by the states participating in the NDSP. In accordance, this biennial report highlights the progress of the NDSP for fiscal years 2004 and 2005.
