Part 3: How We're Getting To The Goal

As we noted at the beginning of this book, journeys require a means of transport. In this case, AD researchers need financial, technical, and scientific support to pursue their work. NIH has created and nurtured the essential research infrastructure that allows scientists to push the basic science forward, conduct epidemiologic and other clinical studies, and develop new drugs and therapeutic approaches. The advances and new knowledge that result are bringing us ever closer to a full understanding of the causes of this devastating disease and to effective prevention and treatment strategies.
