Public Law 108-183 Deals with Benefits for Children with Spina Bifda for Veterans of Certain Service in Korea

Public Law 108-183 has a section that deals with benefits for children with spina bifida for veterans of certain service in Korea.

  • Section 102 extends to children of certain veterans with "covered service" in Korea eligibility for the benefits, including health care benefits, currently provided to Vietnam veterans' children who suffer from spina bifida.
  • A veteran with "covered service" is one who served in or near the DMZ in Korea at any time between September 1, 1967 and August 31, 1971, inclusively; and was exposed to an herbicide agent during that service.
  •  The term "herbicide agent" means a chemical in an herbicide used in support of U.S. and allied military operations in or near the Korean DMZ during the period mentioned above.
  • The term "child" means a natural child of the veteran conceived after the date the veteran first entered the "covered service."
