COSMO SkyMed 3 / Delta II

COSMO-SkyMed-3 is the third in a constellation of four remote sensing/imaging Geosynchronous class spacecrafts, built by Thales Alenia Space Italia, for the Italian Government. COSMO is the acronym for Constellation of Small Satellites for Mediterranean Basin Observation. COSMO-SkyMed 1 was successfully launched on June 6, 2007 and COSMO-SkyMed 2 launched on December 8, 2007. The four-satellite constellation will take radar imagery of the Earth using a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) instrument in response to a variety of institutional users, i.e., defense, civil, and commercial. The satellites will have an operational in-orbit service of at least 5 years.
