Description: It has long been known that T cells are obsessed with MHC proteins. Although we can suggest reasons WHY this might be so, it has been more difficult to find out HOW the obsession occurs. We have recently found a collection of T cell receptors which is even more interested in MHC proteins than the norm. Some of these receptors react with almost any kind of MHC protein with which they are confronted. We have studied these receptors and now suggest a mechanism which allows them to be so promiscuous.
