Risk and Vulnerability Assessment Tool (RVAT)
A risk and vulnerability assessment helps to identify people, property, and
resources that are at risk of injury, damage, or loss from hazardous incidents
or natural hazards. This information is important to help determine and prioritize
the precautionary measures that can make a community more disaster-resistant.

Through the Coastal Storms Program, staff from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration worked with officials in Brevard and Volusia Counties, Florida, to demonstrate effective tools and methods for making these assessments. These tools and methods are easily adaptable to other communities and areas.
