Background
David joined the Northwest Fisheries Science Center's genetics staff in 1976, shortly after receiving a B.A. in English literature from the University of Washington. He is currently the senior member in the Center's Genetics and Evolution Program. Over the years, David has teamed with colleagues to research the population genetics of numerous salmon, trout, and marine fish species. Chinook salmon stock identification has been a primary focus of his work.
Current Research
David studies genetic and life-history differentiation among spawning populations of chinook salmon. He also uses genetic stock identification methods to examine ocean migration patterns of juvenile chinook and coho salmon.
