Position Overview

Work with current MASS SME to maintain all of MASS Operations. Prepare for and execute LAMCAS (MASS Replacement) Operations functions when the LAMCAS cutover is executed. Will work with current SME to develop and provide system training, become an SME on MASS and LAMCAS, be knowledgeable on all aspects of MASS Operations and LAMCAS Operations. Work with MASS and LAMCAS users to ensure passwords are maintained and system operation problems are solved.

Key Position Requirements

Position requires Q Access authorization. Candidate must have the ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance which normally requires US citizenship. Requires HRP. Current office setting is in a VTR. Demonstrated attention to detail is a must. Classified-computing experience is required. This position requires extensive classified-computing operations. High-level of demonstrated customer service is critical. Position requires demonstrated ability to troubleshoot user classified-computing experience and problems.

Summary

Provides advanced technical support services; designs, specifies, and develops solutions for complex heterogeneous computing infrastructure. Performs research and development to identify and implement applicable emerging technologies in the Laboratory computing environment. Utilizes formal project management methodologies; gathers customer requirements; performs risk management functions; performs capacity and availability planning for computing infrastructure; performs effective communication both, verbal and written, at all levels.

Developing professional expertise, applies Laboratory policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues. Can use and apply standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques as recognized within a profession or administrative specialty. Provides resolutions to an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Contributes to the fulfillment of projects and organizational objectives. Continually supervised and follows established directions. Receives detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. Work is reviewed for accuracy, soundness of judgment and overall adequacy. Work is reviewed while in progress. Uses judgment within defined practices and procedures to determine appropriate action.

Job Duties

  4. Researches, assembles, and/or evaluates information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting policies or programs; recommends sound, practical solutions to complex issues.
  5. Designs, specifies, and develops solutions for complex heterogeneous computing infrastructure
  6. Performs research and development to identify and implement applicable emerging technologies in the Laboratory computing environment
  7. Utilizes formal project management methodologies; gathers customer requirements; performs risk management functions; performs capacity and availability planning for computing infrastructure; performs effective communication both, verbal and written, at all levels.
  8. Provides operational support for customers using standard operating procedures. Operational duties may include troubleshooting, granting permissions, and training users. Typical tasks may include installing, configuring, and maintaining operations for systems, including web servers. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels. Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages. Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures
  9. Ensures data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Designs and implements media management based on requirements through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services (disaster recovery).
  10. May program in a compiled or interpretive language.
  11. Develops and maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.
  12. Conducts, or assists in routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  13. Works on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises limited judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Has internal and some external contacts.

Job Knowledge

  • Knowledge of software development methodologies, tools and processes, including software development methodology framework, source code control, application development tools and techniques, database design, development and management, programming languages, and component integration.
  • Knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.
  • Knowledge of Web-based technologies including Web page development and maintenance and Web-based tools and utilities.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software integration and testing.
  • Knowledge of complex heterogeneous computing infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of emerging computing technologies in industry.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of risk management assessments.
  • Ability to partner with customers.
  • Ability to review and understand end-to-end work processes.
  • Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to audiences outside of organization.
  • Skill in working closely with customers and suppliers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written).

Education

  • Position typically requires a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Receives general direction from work unit manager.

  • Provides technical direction to junior personnel, if assigned.

  • Laboratory personnel and management and other technical colleagues.
