Summary

Reporting to the Director, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking an Office Director of Cyber Security to be responsible for all aspects of cyber security at the laboratory. LANL is one of the Department of Energy's national laboratories conducting a broad range of research, development, and engineering activities with an annual budget of over $2B. The laboratory has experimental, laboratory, and office facilities spread over 40 square miles with thousands of computer systems including many classified networks and some of the world's most advanced super computers. Cyber systems at LANL are generally interconnected on an internal lab wide network or on an extensive classified fiber network. All systems must operate under the highest security standards in full compliance with all federal directives and ideally at the state-of-art for cyber security anywhere. The Office Director will develop and maintain clear cyber security policies, and validate an integrated and consistent approach to implementation across the Laboratory and within the peer cyber community. Given the technical breadth and capabilities of LANL, it is expected that the Director of Cyber Security will show leadership in drawing upon the Laboratory's institutional information technology strength to develop pioneering approaches to security for information systems and operation. The Cyber Security Director will be responsible for managing multi-million dollar budgets from both government agencies institutional funding sources.

Required Skills

Proven experience managing large scale and distributed computing and information systems. In-depth understanding of the cyber security environment, which includes the elements of compliance, certification, development and implementation of policy. Demonstrated application of novel, unique cyber security strategies and methodologies. Expert experience in technology development and systems analysis within a large, complex research and development facility. Exceptional communication skills, especially in the areas of presenting briefings and interacting with people. Demonstrated record in successful management of programs and people. Demonstrated complex program management skills, including oversight of multi-million dollar budgets. This position requires a Q access authorization. Applicants must have the ability to obtain a Clearance, which usually requires US citizenship.

Desired Skills

Considerable experience with information systems in both technical programs and operations.

Education

Masters (Ph.D. preferred) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.
