HHS’ Health Resources and Services Administration
recently published a “how-to” guide to help states and partner
agencies meet health workforce objectives in support of Healthy
People 2010, the nation's public health agenda for the next
decade.
Titled The Key Ingredient of the National
Prevention Agenda: Workforce Development; A Companion Document
to Healthy People 2010, the guide contains practical examples
of strategies and resources that health planners can use to
meet workforce projections, increase the proportion of minority
health workers, and improve continuing education and competency
training programs.
The companion document is geared to state
and local health officials, Healthy People coordinators, workforce
development coordinators, minority health directors and personnel
officers.
The nation’s health workforce plays an
important role in achieving national Healthy People 2010 objectives. Several items under the HP 2010 objectives of Access to Quality
Health Services (#1) and Public Health Infrastructure (#23)
deal with issues of workforce development, education and training,
and resources.
Free copies of the document are available from
the HRSA Information Center at 1-888-ASK-HRSA or on-line at
www.ask.hrsa.gov.
