Volunteer OpportunitiesThe Tongass National Forest is always looking for people interested in volunteering in Southeast Alaska. Volunteering for the Forest Service gives you the chance to pursue such diverse interests as watching birds, building fish passes, and maintaining cabins. Your volunteer experience will give you time to spend outdoors enjoying the company of employees, fellow volunteers and forest visitors. It can provide chances to establish professional contacts, to use existing skills or develop new ones, or to fulfill college requirements. Further, there is the satisfaction of knowing your work will have a lasting effect on the National Forest. If you decide to become a volunteer, be sure to bring boots and rain gear. The Tongass is a rain forest and we receive inches and inches of liquid sunshine annually. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the Tongass National Forest, please check with USA Freedom Corps at www.usafreedomcorps.gov, or try Volunteer.Gov at www.volunteer.gov/gov/. For further information, contact the individual ranger district you are interested in working for. One possibility is Campground Hosts at Juneau or Sitka Campgrounds |
