Outfitter and Guide Proposals

Chugach National Forest, Alaska Region

The Glacier Ranger District is requesting comments on two 10-year permit renewal from Glacier City Snowmobile Tours & Alaska Backcountry Access.

Use of private, State or Native lands would not be authorized.  Permit holders would be required to use Leave No Trace skills and ethics.  A summary of requested uses and use levels follows:

  • Glacier City Snowmobile Tours - Guided snowmobile tours – 800 service days.
  • Alaska Backcountry Access – 410 service days for day use (hiking, biking, ski touring, snowshoeing, rafting, kayaking), 140 service days for overnight use (camping).

(Note: A service day is one person on National Forest Land for any part of one day.)

The district is also requesting comments on one 20-year permit renewal for Westours, INC, dba Portage Glacier Cruises for operating a tour boat concession at Portage Lake in Portage Valley, Alaska.
