Renaissance Bronzes from the Robert H. Smith Collection

Overview: 50 bronzes of the 16th and 17th centuries drawn from the Robert H. Smith Collection were presented in this exhibition, which coincided with the opening of the newly renovated Ground Floor Sculpture Galleries at the National Gallery of Art. The sculptures included a concentration of works from the workshop of Giambologna and by his followers, as well as major works from northern Italy, Rome, and northern Europe.

Alison Luchs, curator of early European sculpture, Shelley Sturman, conservator and head of object conservation, Manfred Leithe-Jasper, visiting senior curator of sculpture, and Nicholas Penny, incoming senior curator of sculpture at the National Gallery of Art, were coordinators.
