The exhibition was largely selected from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Cape Ann Historical Association in Gloucester, Massachusetts. It was organized and coordinated by John Wilmerding. Gaillard Ravenel and Mark Leithauser designed the exhibition, and Gordon Anson designed the lighting for the National Gallery.
