Elise Paschen was executive director of Poetry Society of America from 1988 to 2001 and co-founder of "Poetry in Motion," a nation-wide program that places poetry posters in subways and buses. Her poems have been published in The New Yorker, The New Republic, and Ploughshares, among other magazines, and in numerous anthologies, including Reinventing the Enemy's Language: Contemporary Native Women's Writings of North America. She is the recipient of several poetry awards including the Nicholas Roerich Poetry Prize for her book of poems, Infidelities (1996). She is editor of The New York Times best-selling anthology Poetry Speaks to Children (Sourcebooks, 2005). A resident of Chicago, she teaches in the Writing Program at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
