2009 Forest Passes
Recreation Passes are required from January 1st - December 31st across the Huron-Manistee National Forests at recreation site providing specific amenities.

Passes can be purchased at any Forest Service Office or at vendor locations.
To receive the discounted rate of $45.00 for 2 passes you must purchase your passes at a Forest Service office or mail your request to a Forest Service office.
National Interagency Recreation Passes
Good at: Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and US Fish & Wildlife Service sites. Use above link for specific information.

When at recreation sites a pass must be displayed on front dashboard or hanging from mirror.

Pine River and Pere Marquette River Permits
- Watercraft permits are required from May 15 to Sept. 10.
- The permittee must display and carry the permit or tags with them on their trip.
- Paddlers may reserve a watercraft permit for $2 per watercraft from a Manistee National Forest office. (No refunds are given).
- A Recreation Fee Demonstration vehicle pass is required at river access sites.
- A pay station with self-service fee tube is available at all locations requiring a pass.
- Canoe liveries also provide passes to customers.
- Camping within ¼ mile of the river is not allowed in the Wild and Scenic River Corridor, from Elm Flats to Low Bridge.
- Styrofoam coolers, glass bottles and balloons are prohibited.
- Watercraft shall be equipped with a container to hold personal items, and it should be tied down to prevent loss.
- Please pack out all you pack in!
- Limit climbing of eroded banks.
- The U.S. Forest Service supports a policy of a 4 beverage limit per person on the Pine.
- Be aware that under the Marine Safety Act operating any watercraft while under the influence of alcohol is a violation.
- Watercraft courtesy hours are from 9:00am to 6:00pm. If you are on the river early or late, please plan a quieter and wildlife friendly paddle.

Please read and respect the signs at the access / landings concerning parking, loading and unloading.
If your plans change, please call (231) 745-4631 to cancel your private watercraft permit so it may be available to others. (Only 100 are issued on Saturdays.)
Au Sable Dispersed Camping Sites Reservation System
- Permits for dispersed camping (1-7 days) on the Au Sable River (4001 landing to Oscoda) are required from May 15 through September 30.
- Reservations may be made up to three (3) days of your expected arrival date through the National Recreation Reservation Service, at 1-877-444-6777 or on-line reservations: http://www.recreation.gov/.
- There will be walk-in sites available only when sites are not reserved.
- Walk-in stays are limited to three (3) days.
- The fee for permits is $5.00 per night for each site and a $9.00 reservation charge.
- Camping Permits are required prior to occupying the campsite.
- From October 1 through May 14, camping is permitted at designated sites only free of charge.

For example, a 3 night stay would cost:
$ 15 ($5 per night x 3)
+ $ 9 (reservation charge)
= $ 24 (total)
- Guided tours to view the Kirtland’s Warbler are available through the U.S. Forest Service office in Mio at $5.00 per person. This price will be raised to $10.00 in 2009.
- Daily tours are given once each day from May 13 - July 2.

Wood Cutting Permit
Firewood permits and maps are only available at Huron-Manistee NF District Offices and Supervisors Office. You must obtain the permit in person.
Permits are $20.00 for 5 cords of wood. The maximum and minimum you can purchase is 5 cords.
Christmas Tree Tags
Price: $5/tree
Restrictions
- Limit 3 trees per household
- Digging up trees is not permitted
- Please take entire tree, cutting stump at ground level
- Sold during November & December
