Welcome to the RDC Website!

The NCHS Research Data Center (RDC) is in the unique position of being able to provide secure access to the full range of health and vital statistics information collected by the National Center for Health Statistics data systems, while continuing to protect the confidentiality of the respondents and records.

 

Our mission is to give wide public access to the data, while maintaining strict confidentiality, and to offer our statistical, programming, and consulting expertise to facilitate the data analysis for your research project. You agree to maintain the complete confidentiality of the data, in both analysis and reporting.

 

The application process:

 

How to get started

  1. Start the research proposal process by reviewing the proposal checklist and a sample proposal.
     
  2.  Develop a research proposal following the guidelines of the checklist.
     
  3. Decide if you wish to work onsite at the RDC or submit programs remotely.
     
  4. Submit your proposal to the RDC Director as an e-mail attachment.
     
  5. We will review your proposal and advise you of any changes or additions needed.
     
  6. If your proposal is accepted, we will send you an invoice for the user fees.
     
  7. We will give you further information about confidentiality forms, depending on your situation.
    Contact the RDC Staff at any time to discuss whether your project is within the scope of what we do, or to see if RDC staff-assisted research is available. Another option is to carry out your research through a Census Research Data Center.
