Synopsis

It has been said that we spend 80% of our time managing 20% of our staff. Using humor and the power of metaphors, this webinar will present some creative ways of managing that 20% of our workforce and also provide some guidance for managing ourselves. We will discuss some common management issues using Don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements. Ruiz's agreements: 1. Take Nothing Personally; 2. Make No Assumptions; 3. Have Integrity with Your Word; and 4. Always Do Your Best, will help guide the WebEx.

Presentation objectives

  1. Learn about the importance of humor in the accountability process.
  2. Learn to describe the process of positive reframing and how it may develop clear expectations among staff.
  3. Come away understanding the importance of follow-up.
  4. Learn to recognize the importance of time, consistency, and vision when managing.

Speakers

Sally Harrison, RN, BSN

Ms. Harrison is the principle and CEO of Rural Health Strategies, Inc. Prior to working with Rural Health Strategies, Inc., Ms. Harrison developed the Practice Management Program at the Mississippi Hospital Association, through funding from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and subsequently worked as the Director of Practice Manager for 6 years. This program was developed with the intent to help rural providers improve financial and clinical processes that would maintain access to healthcare. During her 6-year tenure as a Practice Manager, she assisted hospitals, federally qualified health centers, as well as many private and rural health clinics.

Prior to her position at Mississippi Hospital Association, she held hospital administrative positions with Health Management Associates. She has also held clinic administrative positions for multi-specialty clinics with satellite clinics in rural areas. Her clinical experience began 25 years ago in direct care areas in the hospital setting.

Ms. Harrison received her BS in Nursing as a Dean's List Scholar from University of Southern Mississippi.
