ORDER
Fire, Occupancy and Use Restrictions
Comanche National Grassland
Pursuant to Title 16, United States Code, Section 551, and Title
36, Code of Federal Regulations, Section 261.50(a), the prohibitions
listed below apply to the Vogel Canyon and Picture Canyon areas,
on the Comanche National Grassland, Otero and Baca Counties, Colorado,
as shown on the attached maps, hereby incorporated into this Order
as Exhibits A and B.
Vogel Canyon is described as those National Forest
System lands located in the 6th PM, Otero County, Colorado:
S1/2SW1/4, NE1/4SE1/4, S1/2SE1/4, SE1/4NE1/4 of
Section 24, Township 26 South, Range 55 West, 6th P.M.
W1/2SW1/4, SW1/4NW1/4 of Section 19, Township 26
South, Range 54 West, 6th P.M.
NW1/4NW1/4 of Section 30, Township 26 South, Range
54 West, P.M.
Picture Canyon is described as those National Forest
System lands located in the 6th PM, Baca County, Colorado:
All of Sections 7 and 18, Township 35 South, Range 47 West, 6th
P.M., excluding that portion of Forest Service Road Number 564
in Section 7 and that portion of Forest Service Road Number 535
in Section 7 beginning at the point of intersection with the north
boundary of Section 7 to the point of intersection with the access
road to Picture Canyon Picnic Area. Also excluding the access
road to Picture Canyon Picnic Area and the developed Picture Canyon
Picnic Area. Parking will be allowed along designated roads and
motorized trails within one vehicle length of the edge of the
road/trail surface when it is safe to do so and will not cause
resource damage.
PROHIBITIONS:
1. Possessing or using any type of vehicle off any
National Forest System Road (NFSR)
36 CFR 261.56
2. Using any type of motorized vehicle on any roads
in the areas. 36 CFR 261.54(a)
3. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a
fire or campfire within 100 feet of the canyon wall or on canyon
slopes. 36 CFR 261.52(a)
EXEMPTIONS:
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (e), the following persons
are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons with a Forest Service permit specifically
authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
2. Any Federal, State, or Local officer, or member
of an organized rescue or fire fighting force, in the performance
of an official duty.
This order supersedes, rescinds and replaces Order 90-08, dated
November 14, 1990.
This Forest Order shall be in effect from May 23,
2008, through May 31, 2013, or until rescinded, whichever event
occurs first.
