Greetings!
Welcome to the first issue of LANL's electronic version of
the "Connections" newsletter, your connection to LANL. This
e-newsletter will replace the newsletter that has been mailed
periodically over the years. With this more modern way of
communicating, we hope to capture the spirit of activities and news
that is happening both within the Laboratory and within the
community. Our intent is to give you a glimpse into these areas,
with links and oppportunities to download additional information.
These monthly newsletters are intended to be brief and informative.
So, please let us know if you have suggestions on how we can improve
upon this new approach of communicating with you and let us know if
you have items you would like us to share with the broader regional
community.
All my best,
Lillian Montoya-Rael

Los Alamos Scholarship Fund |
![](april_files/spacer.gif) |
The Los Alamos Employees' Scholarship Fund allows and
encourages Laboratory employees and subcontract personnel to
donate to a fund that awards college scholarships to Northern
New Mexico students.
This year for the first time, the University of California
is also awarding seven UC Nonresident Tuition Waiver
scholarships. These $12,500-a-year renewable four-year
scholarships give Northern New Mexico students, who wouldn't
qualify for UC in-state tuition through a different program,
financial assistance to attend a UC campus at the in-state
tuition rate, explained Tony Fox of the nonprofit Los Alamos
National Laboratory Foundation, which manages the scholarship
fund in collaboration with Debbie Wersonic of the Laboratory's
Community Relations Office. Please
click here to see article listing of this year's
recipients.
Since the Los Alamos Employees' Scholarship Fund program
began in 1998, 315 scholarships have been granted, according
to Fox of the Laboratory Foundation. And Laboratory workers
have donated more than $1 million to the scholarship fund
since its creation.
