Carson-Iceberg WildernessThe Carson River, named after scout and explorer Kit Carson, and the distinctive granite formation called "The Iceberg," on its southern boundary, give the wilderness its name. The Carson-Iceberg Wilderness is a rugged landscape of inspiring scenic beauty. Visitors will find steep mountain peaks, sub-alpine lakes, and broad glacially carved valleys. High points allow one to view vast desert to the east and dense conifer forest to the west. Travelers can follow the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT) from Sonora Pass to Ebbetts Pass through the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness. The PCT is 2,650 miles long and stretches from the Canadian to the Mexican borders. DirectionsThe Carson-Iceberg Wilderness is located south of Markleeville, California. Access is from California Highway 4 at Wolf Creek Road and Ebbetts Pass, California highway 108 at Sonora Pass, and Mill Canyon Road to Golden Gate Road off U.S. Highway 395 south of Coleville, California.
