Teleretinal Imaging

Visual impairment is a common complication of diabetes. VHA is able to outperform the commercial managed care sector in screening for this. Maintaining and exceeding current rates of screening for diabetic retinopathy is the VHA's rational for exploring the use of teleretinal imaging. Based upon a productive partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Joslin Vision Network (JVN) in Boston, VHA has implemented pilot teleretinal imaging programs in over 130 sites since FY2000.
