USPTO Announces PatentIn 3.5 Training

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is pleased to announce a free training session for PatentIn 3.5 on Friday, October 17, 2008. The session will run from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM in order to accommodate people attending via web cast. Web cast information will be available to course registrants shortly before the scheduled class date. 

Course Content

  1. Overview of molecular biology
  2. Overview of the sequence rules
  3. Hands-on authoring of several sequence listings varying in complexity

Questions are welcome during the training and the instructor will be available after class to assist attendees with their sequence listings.

Course Instructor:
The instructor is Robert Wax, a Quality Assurance Specialist (TQAS) in Technology Center 1600, a former Project Manager of PatentIn and one of the USPTO’s sequence rule experts. Bob has extensive knowledge and experience in processing applicant sequence listings using Patentin and will provide attendees hands-on instruction and demonstrations using the latest Patentin 3.5 version.

Course Location
The Patentin 3.5 training class will be held in the USPTO’s Madison West building, Room 240. In-person attendees will meet in the atrium of the Madison Building by 11:40 to receive a building pass. Once all the training attendees have gathered in the Madison building, the class will proceed to the training room together.  It is important that registered attendees meet on time at the Madison on time so that the training session can promptly begin at noon. The Madison building is located at 600 Dulany Street, Alexandria, Virginia and you can visit the USPTO’s Internet website for directions to our office: http://www.uspto.gov/main/directions_alex.htm.

Online Registration Information
To register for the Patentin 3.5 training class, attendees must send an e-mail to the Patentin 3.5 registration mailbox at:  Patin3help@uspto.gov. The registration e-mail should include contact information and indicate attendance in either the classroom training session or through the Internet web cast. If you elect to attend through the web cast, you will need to submit your registration e-mail by Friday, October 10, 2008.  Once the training registration list is finalized, we will send a link to web cast registrants so they can set up their login. Training Class Information
The Patentin 3.5 training class has a maximum in-person capacity of approximately 20 participants. Attendees will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If the USPTO receives more requests than space permits, additional sessions will be scheduled at a future date.

Parking information
Onsite parking is available in the USPTO’s West Garage, located at 550 Elizabeth Lane or the East Garage, located at 551 John Carlyle Street, Alexandria, Virginia. The daily garage parking rates are:
1 hour $3.00
2 hours $6.00
3 hours $9.00
Maximum $10.00
Rates apply to all vehicle types including motorcycles
