OCS Report MMS 99-0034

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS), Gulf of Mexico OCS Region, announces the availability of OCS Report MMS 99-0034, Assessment of Conventionally Recoverable Hydrocarbon Resources of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf as of January 1, 1995, on CD-ROM (CD). This study delineated 72 plays, of which 52 comprise the Gulf of Mexico Cenozoic Province, 9 comprise the Gulf of Mexico Mesozoic Province, and 11 comprise the Atlantic Mesozoic Province. These 72 plays account for a mean total endowment of nearly 26 billion barrels of oil (Bbo) and 300 trillion cubic feet of gas (Tcfg). Of this mean total endowment, approximately 11 Bbo and 123 Tcfg are undiscovered resources. Moreover, nearly 80 percent of these undiscovered resources are projected to occur in the Gulf of Mexico.

This CD is a companion to other reports that have been published by MMS and the U.S. Geological Survey to document the Department of the Interior’s most recent assessment of oil and gas resources for the Nation.

This publication is a completely digital, interactive, programmed report that describes and illustrates the assessment methodologies and detailed geologic and economic results by use of traditional Windows drop-down menus and buttons. The CD’s are self-contained with Adobe Acrobat Reader, ESRI ArcExplorer, and Microsoft Excel spreadsheet viewer for using the several file types included:

The data and information on this CD are offered to MMS customers in a variety of user-friendly formats with no hardcopy burdens or reproduction costs, as tools for future exploration and development in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Basins. Minimum system requirements are a 486/66MHz or higher IBM or compatible computer with Windows 95 or higher, 16MB of RAM, and at least 10MB of hard disk space.

Copies of this CD are free and can be ordered from the MMS by calling 1-800-200-GULF or by sending a fax to (504) 736-2620. The PDF-formatted file of the interactive report is also free and available via the MMS Internet homepage @ www.mms.gov. MMS is the Federal Agency that manages the Nation’s oil and gas and other mineral resources on the OCS and collects, accounts for, and last year disbursed about $6 billion in revenues from Federal offshore mineral leases and from onshore mineral leases on Federal and Indian lands.
