Contact: Dr. Joe Trahan Debra Winbush Effects of Oil and Gas Development: A Current Awareness Bibliography, 2000-2004OCS Study MMS 2005-019The Minerals Management Service (MMS), Gulf of Mexico OCS Region, announces the availability of a new study report, Effects of Oil and Gas Development: A Current Awareness Bibliography, 2000-2004. This bibliography was created as part of the research initiative between the Minerals Management Service, Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON), and the Coastal Marine Institute at Louisiana State University, with the aim of providing current awareness in all aspects of oil and gas development. Sixteen quarterly issues, which contain approximately 2,250 citations, were prepared from January 2001 to October 2004 and were compiled into this final report at LUMCON’s Marine Center Library. The project includes a web-based database with products from previous reports back to 1990. Five broad subject areas are covered by this bibliography: biology; chemistry, geochemistry, and geology; engineering and physics; environment, ecosystem management, and spills; and socioeconomic, regulation, and general. The majority of the citations are for journal articles, books, book chapters, conference proceedings, and papers in conference proceedings. A few audio-visual and electronic works are cited.
This report is available only in
compact disc format. The disc is available from the Minerals Management
Service, Gulf of Mexico OCS Region, at a charge of $15.00 by referencing
OCS Study MMS 2005-019. The report may be ordered through the

MMS, part of the U.S. Department of the Interior, oversees 1.76 billion acres
of the Outer Continental Shelf, managing offshore energy and minerals while
protecting the human, marine, and coastal environments through advanced
science and technology research. The OCS provides 30 percent of oil and 23
percent of natural gas produced domestically, and sand used for coastal
restoration. MMS collects, accounts for, and disburses mineral revenues from
Federal and American Indian lands, with Fiscal Year 2004 disbursements of
approximately $8 billion and more than $143 billion since 1982. The Land and
Water Conservation Fund, which pays for cooperative conservation, grants to
states, and Federal land acquisition, gets nearly $1 billion a year.
