Energy Council Charter


The LANL Energy Council serves as an advisory board to PAD-STE and the program directors in the Science Program Office (SPO) in the general area of energy. The deputy of PAD-STE, currently Anna Zurek, serves as council sponsor. The council meets monthly and consists of technical experts recommended by associate directors as well as technical staff members, appointed by the deputy of PAD-STE, who have a broad understanding of, and interest and expertise in, energy science and technology. The council serves at the discretion of the PAD-STE with the following charter to help the PAD-STE and SPO:

  1. Identify critical problems in energy and energy security
  2. Provide vision and enhance the role of LANL in addressing current and emerging problems in energy and energy security
  3. Provide integration across LANL and foster communication on energy-related science and technology
  4. Ensure engagement and integration with divisions through AD representatives in critical planning efforts
  5. Evaluate new ideas and concepts
  6. Promote LANL activities in energy security with the external technical community
  7. Organize topical workshops and seminars to integrate and promote LANL work
  8. Identify and evaluate opportunities, constraints, and vulnerabilities for energy program growth in the following Lab directorates: Science, Technology, and Engineering; Threat Reduction; and Nuclear Weapons Physics.
  9. Assess prioritization of efforts, institutional investments in, and program development resources for energy and energy security
