VA Health Care Eligibility & Enrollment

Women Veterans Eligibility

Current estimates of the projected growth of women veterans predict there will be 1.9 million by 2020, up from 1.1 million in 1980. Thus, women will continue to make up a larger share of the veteran population, add to its diversity, and require veteran services geared to their specific needs. The debt owed to all of our veterans and to women in particular demands nothing less then full attention and action.

To assess health care services, veterans can apply for VA health care enrollment by completing VA Form 10-10EZ. The form may be obtained by visiting, calling or writing any VA health care facility or veterans’ benefits office. You can also contact VA’s Health Benefits Service Center toll-free at 1-877-222 VETS (8387) or access the form on the Internet at https://www.1010ez.med.va.gov/sec/vha/1010ez/.

NOTE: In November 1994, Public Law 103-446 established the Center for Women Veterans in the Department of Veterans Affairs under the Office of the Secretary. The primary mission of the Center for Women Veterans is to review VA programs and services for women veterans, and assure that women veterans receive benefits and services on a par with male veterans, encounter no discrimination in their attempt to access them, and are treated with the respect, dignity, and understanding by VA service providers.

Women veterans may receive the full spectrum medical benefits package. They also receive the full continuum of comprehensive medical services including health promotion and disease prevention, primary care, women’s gender-specific health care e.g., hormone replacement therapy, breast and gynecological care, maternity and limited infertility (excluding In-vitro fertilization), acute medical/surgical, emergency and substance abuse treatment, mental health, domiciliary, rehabilitation and long term care.

Primary Care Services include:

  • Family Planning and Birth Control
  • GYN & Maternity Care
  • Infertility Evaluation & Treatment
  • Midlife and Menopause Issues
  • Cancer Screenings
  • Wellness and Healthy Living
  • Mammograms

NOTE: VA has no authority to provide care to newborn infants and does not deliver babies. Local medical facilities will assist the veteran in accessing community resources. When the pregnant veteran has a total disability, permanent in nature, resulting from a service-connected disability, and the child is not otherwise eligible for medical care under the Civilian Health and Medical program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS), then a newborn infant could receive care under Civilian Health and Medial Program of VA (CHAMPVA).

Mental Health Services include:

  • Management of Depression
  • Anxiety, Stress
  • Counseling and Medication
  • Family and Parenting Issues
  • Adjustment from Deployment Dependence
  • Treatment for Alcohol and Drug
  • Military Sexual Trauma Counseling
