Established by legislation in 1927, the 'Bureau' is a research and service division of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NM Tech). We are a non-regulatory agency that serves as the geological survey for the State of New Mexico.
Through our offices and Web site, our staff serves the diverse population of our state. From elementary students to research and industry scientists, there is something at the Bureau for everyone who has ever wondered about the exceptional geology of New Mexico. Many of our staff are also active members of the New Mexico Geological Society. Because we share many of the same goals, the Bureau hosts their Web site and has a cooperative agreement to retail their publications (many authored by our staff).
