Dr. Alan Wolffe is chief of the Laboratory of Molecular Embryology and chief of the Section on Molecular Biology of NICHD.

Dr. Wolffe attended Oxford University, earning a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. He then earned his Ph.D. in molecular biology at the MRC London and did postdoctoral training in molecular biology at Carnegie Institution.

In 1987, Dr. Wolffe joined NIDDK's Laboratory of Molecular Biology, and assumed both of his present positions in 1990.


Dr. Kenneth Fischbeck is chief of the Neurogenetics Branch of NINDS.

Dr. Fischbeck earned his bachelor's degree in biochemical sciences and a master's degree in biology at Harvard University. He then earned a medical degree at Johns Hopkins University. He completed an internal medicine internship at Case Western Reserve University Hospital, and a neurology residency at the University of California, San Francisco.

After completing a research fellowship in neurology at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Fischbeck stayed on there as a professor of neurology. In 1998, he joined NINDS as chief of its Neurogenetics Branch.
